7 Tips for Better Gut Health in 2025 | ELLE Canada Magazine

1. Keep it simple

For most people, the road to a healthy gut isn’t complicated. It involves sticking to the basics of nutrition. “Time and time again, we see that a balanced diet can positively impact the gut microbiota and overall health,” says Hardy. Several of these basics are listed below.

2. Get enough fibre

“The majority of us are not hitting our fibre targets,” Hardy notes. Foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds and pulses are all rich in fibre. Plus, they contain compounds that positively impact the gut, like polyphenols and other micronutrients.

3. Choose nutritious snacks

When you’re running around throughout the day, eating healthy can feel like a chore. But it doesn’t have to be difficult. “As a busy mom, I find including ACTIVIA in a nutritious snack to be my go-to,” says Hardy. As the pioneer of probiotic yogurt, ACTIVIA contains more than one billion probiotics* per serving. It comes in multiple flavours and formats to suit your needs, making it an easy and delicious way to incorporate probiotics into each day. “I like to have it with some fruit and granola, or nuts and seeds, and make it a daily opportunity to nourish my gut.”

4. Reduce added sugars and highly processed foods

“We know that highly processed and high-sugar foods are associated with negative changes in our gut microbiota,” says Hardy. While you don’t have to avoid all junk foods, cutting back on these types of meals and snacks may help improve gut health. “Every time we eat is an opportunity to nourish our gut microbiota.”

5. Include something “living” every day

Eating fermented foods (e.g. kefir, sauerkraut and kimchi) as well as foods with probiotics (e.g. probiotic yogurt) each day is important because they don’t take up residence in the gut. “Probiotics are like tourists:

They come in, do a specific job and then leave,” says Hardy. “They need time to ‘get to work’ and exert positive benefits on your health.”

6. Prioritize water intake

Most people could do with drinking more water throughout the day. “Hydration is essential not only for overall health but for digestion too,” says Hardy.

7. Take the ACTIVIA Gut Health Challenge

“The ACTIVIA Gut Health Challenge invites Canadians to eat two servings of ACTIVIA a day for 14 days,” says Hardy. The goal is to see if ACTIVIA helps reduce minor digestive issues** like bloating, gas, discomfort and rumbling when eaten as part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. (Hint: The effectiveness of ACTIVIA in improving these digestive symptoms is backed by clinical studies.)

Now it’s your opportunity to see how ACTIVIA’s one billion probiotics work for you.
